The reader’s problem
A clean-looking transcription can hide uncertainty that matters in law.
What changed
The scan-reading update kept both alternatives where independent readings disagreed, instead of quietly choosing one. The website, JSON API and MCP responses gained a way to display or explain those disputed spans.
Using the feature
When a passage shows alternative readings, open its source page image before quoting it. A number, negation or short word can change the effect of a provision. Visible alternatives give a reader a precise location to check rather than a general warning somewhere else on the page.
Reading the evidence
Reader agreement is a comparison between transcriptions, not a measured probability that the legal text is correct. Even matching readings can share an error. Source images, publication references and any recorded gaps remain part of the evidence. This feature applies to scanned legislation; later judgment work introduced related controls for court documents.
