What we collect
We count visits with Google Analytics, which sets cookies, to learn which texts people read and how they find them. We also use PostHog, which sets a cookie and keeps the IP address, the pages opened, what is searched and, for some visits, a recording of the page while it is used, so we can see what works and fix what breaks; email addresses typed into the sign-up form are left out of those recordings. We do not run ads, sell data or ask you to sign in. Please do not search for personal information. Search can send your question and selected source passages to the answer provider named next to the search form. Leave out personal details.
Cloudflare provides caching, security and operational performance measurement, including its existing browser performance beacon. These hosting measurements run separately from Google Analytics and PostHog browser measurement. Our own server keeps anonymous search words, result counts and document-read totals for up to 90 days, without IP addresses or visitor profiles. Server error monitoring sends a generic error category without query strings, IP addresses, user agents or exception text.
